About Us

As with many small businesses, "We" is actually "Me". My name is Jordan Mitchell. I am an Asheville, North Carolina "near-native" having been moved here from Arkansas before I was 1 year old. I have been hiking the trails in the area as long as I can remember, and really mountain biking since 1996. I am responsible for virtually everything you see on this site.

Soon after I started mountain biking, I decided that there wasn't enough information about the area's trails on the Internet. So I launched mtbikewnc.com with trip reports and trail observations loosely organized and displayed on an ugly web page. Over the years, the amount and scope of the information has grown tremendously, and I formed WNCOutdoors.info to unify my Mountain Biking and Hiking sites.

In 2001, I moved to Colorado and discovered that I truly had deep roots in the mountains of North Carolina. There, I met my wife, Tasha, and she was crazy enough to sit in a small car with me for 1500 miles, sight unseen, in 2002 to live and study with me here in Asheville. Both of us (see photo above) currently attend college. Without her motivation this site would not be where it is at this time. I thank her deeply for allowing me to persue my interests and for helping me keep up with the not-so-fun stuff in the mean time.

Of course, as I hike and bike, I carry a camera with me and all of the photographs you see on these sites were taken by me on my travels. I currently own a Konica Minolta Dimage A2 8.0 megapixel camera. And, of course, I haven't gotten a single great shot since I bought it!
